  1. I have used Google Docs in the past - I was in a weight loss contest with friends. We could each access the spreadsheet and enter our weekly weight. It was convenient because we were 1200 miles apart. I just checked on the internet and it is available for the iPad now for $4.99. However, I don’t use it because QuickOffice does the same thing for me. If I want to share a document with another person/s, I can save it in Dropbox and share it that way.
I do know some schools are using Google Docs instead of Office products because it is much cheaper than buying site licenses for every computer for Office. The only glitch is if the internet is down, so is their capability of using any word processing, spreadsheet, or data base tool.

    1. Jerrie I like how you used Google Docs. What a wonderful way to stay in touch with friends and use it for a good purpose.

  2. I use Google Docs everyday. I am in charge of a homework site and teachers will send in the students who are to come and what work they need to do. I use Google Docs to compile the list and send it out. It works well for us as long as the internet/technology is working properly. I think you could use it to communicate with teachers and share information.

  3. WE use google docs with MTSS stuff it saves us time and everyone in the group has access to it. My son uses google docs for homework when it is a group project and his partner lives in the country. they share information back and forth to complete the assignments.

    1. Hope, do the students at your school have Chrome books? Using Google Docs for group projects is wonderful!

    2. no we do not use Chrome books. We have laptops but not one to one. they have to check them out per class period but it helped them with homework so that they can work on it at home.

    3. Hey I like that they are using it with peers. I think sometimes the kids are going to be more tech friendly and nothing will scare them on the computer.

  4. I have used Google Docs in the past for my lesson plans. I can design the format how I want and add some creative touches to it. I really liked it. The only problem was, at the time, sharing school wide. That feature would not always work right, access was not always accessible (but that was a WiFi problem in our building, not a Google Docs problem).

  5. I was "forced" to use Google Docs in a class I was taking. :) I like Word much better, but that may be because I am much more familiar with it. All of our students have Chrome books and use Google Docs for group projects. This works well. The students on my roster can also share w/ me. The really nice feature of Google Docs (A BIG PLUS) is that it automatically saves work! Personally, I still favor using Word; but Google Docs is here to stay for our students and it has made much of their classwork easier. Also, once they have a paper completed on Google Docs it is hard to lose.

    1. I'm with you, Karen. I like Word much better, but it's probably because it's the program I use most often, so am more familiar with it. Since I've only heard good things about the program, I'm assuming I'd probably like it too if I just had more practice with it and gave it a chance (3 years ago, I also said I'd NEVER prefer a Mac over a PC, but since working at HPEC, I don't think I'd ever go back, haha!)

  6. One building where several teachers in a grade work with each student has started using Google Docs to record the impact of interventions for SIT. I can access the data whenever updated, and they can check back to review the interventions. It's a nice replacement for the ILP program and they have ownership as they chose the tool and modified it to their needs.

  7. I have used Google Docs a few times this year, but I used it more last year. This year it has been nice because items have been shared with me that I needed. Google Docs made the sharing super easy! I still don't feel all that confident when using it. I think that I would use it more if I felt more confident with it.

  8. Two of my schools have 1:1 laptop/Chrombooks for their students, so basically EVERYTHING in their buildings is set up on Google Docs. I haven’t used it yet, but I get lots of stuff “shared” with me from these teachers through that program. It sounds really great though, and so far, I’ve only heard good things from the people who are using it.

    1. Our district has went to this way of doing things. They share lesson plans, any documents needed, SATs, You can just go to your drive and find it. I love that then I don't have to search as much for information I need.

  9. Google docs has been something Hugoton has implemented and went to this year. It has been a challenge to figure out at times but once you get the hang of it, it is nice to use. You are able to share it with fellow teachers. I have even set up a spreadsheet with my students goals and sent it out to teachers so that I could compare with them what I see and they see or if I haven't observed something. It is multiple choice and takes them seconds to fill out. I set it up in my calendar so that it automatically sends it to them as well. That was kind of neat to work with. My teachers liked it as well. It also calculates points given on the goals and saves it so that when goals need to be updated you have that information from the teacher.
