  1. II had the Tap to Talk app on my Ipad for my little boy with multiple disabilities. He would get on the app and play around like it was a game, just picking random symbols and listening to them. He never used it for communication purposes. We have also tried PECS but he seems to prefer using sign language. The hearing impaired teacher has several apps on her Ipad for instruction purposes and again he gets on them to play around and not to communicate. So the overall experience has been frustrating for me!

  2. I too, have a 7th graders with a Tap to Talk app that was introduced to him towards the end of his 6th grade year. He has done quite a bit of playing on it.... We recently added some phrases about his day with the hope of making it more useful. This student has some verbal skills and the parents aren't too in to this app. I go back and forth about the effectiveness. Carol, I wonder if these devices were introduced in the early years....say kindergarten or first grade if we'd see much better use of them as communication devices.
